Now we've got a kiddie, we don't get out as much as we used to *sob*!
This means that, as we don't go to the cinema too often, we've got to pick our choice of film carefully! Anyone got any opinions on the current films out at the moment?
On the list of possibilities is "War of the Worlds" and "Charlie and the chocolate factory".

| very quick reviews of the two films that you mentioned. War of the worlds not as great as the hype surrounding it but definitely worth seeing. very good effects not as good as the original. charlie and the chocolate factory worth watching if only for johnny depps outstanding performance. Worth taking the kids to see though. |

I tend to go to the cinema at least twice a week and host the cinema review page on the company intranet. In the last couple of weeks I have seen the following.
Charley and the Chocolate factory -- great film for adults and childern (Although there is some mild violence that could upset very young childern) J Depp is just as good if not better then Gene Wilder in the 1970's version - 8/10
Red Eye - A film by by the director of the nightmare on elm st. series that is a thriller that can stand up on it's own as a good night out but the last half-hour could have been better 6/10
Unleashed (If it's still out) - Not what you would expect from a Jet Li film, although there is some fight scenes (excelent beginning), that only make up about 30% of the film, the rest is taken up with a good plot and great acting from Bob Hoskins, Morgan Freemen (as ever) and a suprisingly good turn from Jet Li. 7/10
"The 40 Year Old Virgin" - not knowing what to expect from this film I was very suprised. It could have gone down the route of being a "Gross out" film, but instead it turns out to be a good rom-com with several funny moments from not only the main cast but several bit parts. 8/10
Hope that Helps.

Thanks Shiggibabe!
We did manage one visit to the cinema, we went to "The Big Scream" at the Phoenix cinema in Oxford which means you can take your baby (screaming or otherwise) along.

You do get a bit of a headache by the end of it though!
We saw Charlie and the Chocolate factory, and I'd rate it less than you - probably 5/10. I thought Jonny Depp's Willy Wonka was pretty weird, like an even freakier Michael Jackson. As for the rest it was a lot like the first film, just with a Tim Burton feel to it. It all seemed a bit... pointless...!
Will check out "The 40 Year Old Virgin" if I get a chance!

I recommend Sahara on DVD for a good night in. It's a nice, simple action adventure movie that moves at a good pace and is very well put together. I thought it looked awful before I saw it, and was very pleasantly surprised. Based on an old Clive Cussler book as well, one of the Dirk Pitt ones (not that I've read it).
Also, Hitchikers Guide To The Galaxy was alright. It's telling that the best bits are the animated, narrated (by Stephen Fry) sections from the book itself - much of the rest of the humour is lost from the text and much seems to have been cut out in the interests of keeping it to 90 minutes. Still, it passed the time - it's just a shame that some of the actors didn't seem to get it.
If anyone's into world cinema, I highly recommend the Korean flick Casshern. Beautifully shot, dealing in many alien themes (alien in terms of non-Western) it really caught the imagination of my wife and I. Superb. |

For a night in I recomend Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron. But for going out, (if it's still on) Madagascar. It's great fun! _________________ Mewmew1 |

If you did see the film, would you reccomend it?
I'm looking for a good thriller to watch in the coming weeks, anyone here have a suggestion? _________________ "Leaving Stanford-in-the-Vale to be closer to Work (Abingdon)" Thanks for the opportunity to join in the community chat. |
