Local History Society
This Society was launched in 2004, after the interest shown
in the publication two years earlier of the magazine, 'The Stanford Historian'
edited and produced by Philip Morris.
The aims of The Society are:
- To increase awareness of the history of Stanford in the Vale and surrounding places, in the eastern part of the Vale of the White Horse.
- To encourage local history research and publish the results.
- To collect, preserve and record objects of historical interest.
- To organise local history displays and exhibitions.
- To publish newsletters, booklets and pamphlets.
Membership is open to everyone who supports its aims.
Meetings are held between September and June, usually on the second Tuesday in the month. at 7.30 p.m. in the Small Village Hall, Stanford in the Vale.
Activities include talks, on a variety of historical subjects, with the emphasis being on local themes, i.e. the Vale, Upper Thames Valley, and other parts of Oxfordshire and Berkshire. There will also be occasional visits and walks, and some workshop sessions for those persons/small groups pursuing local or family history research.
