Thames Valley Police - Faringdon East Monthly Update - March 2010

March 8th 2010 by PCSO Myra Stokes

Faringdon East – March 2010

Here is the latest Faringdon East Neighbourhood update from PCSO Myra Stokes and Susan Haynes

Over the next few weeks we will be giving safety talks to the pupils at all our schools. We will also be attending these locations, at the end of the day offering bike coding for bicycles or scooters. A letter will be sent home with each child, which will need to be filled in and presented with the item to be coded if you wish for your own cycle to be coded also, please either come along, or contact us on 0845 8 505 505 and we will be happy to oblige.
Buckland School was visited on the 24 February, it was most enjoyable and we were given a very warm welcome by all of the children there. A good number of cycles were presented for coding at the end of the day, which we were very pleased with.

Unfortunately a home in Huntersfield, Stanford in the Vale was subject to a burglary which happened between 1pm and 8.50pm on the 6 February, where a Nintendo WII console and games were stolen.

At approximately 5pm on 6 February, a litter bin was deliberately set alight in School Lane, Kingston Bagpuize. The fire service attended and doused the blaze, but the bin was unsalvageable.

Overnight on 11 to 12 February a container in Shellingford was broken into. Two quad bikes and four chainsaws were stolen. One of the quad bikes was later found abandoned near the Ridgeway, but the second bike and other items remain outstanding.

Overnight on 24 to 25 February, a green Landrover was stolen without keys from the driveway of a property in Longworth.

On the 20 February a burglary was committed to a property on Faringdon Road, Southmoor.

After a number of reports of animal cruelty in Stanford in The Vale, police officers attended the location with the RSPCA and an arrest was made. Enquires are still on going.

If anyone has any information at all about the offences above please call us on 0845 8 505 505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Our enjoyment of spring is often marred by the increase of shed and outhouse burglaries. We can offer the same free coding we use for bicycles for your garden machinery. We also have a number of free tool marking kits available at both Faringdon and Wantage police stations. Although marking your property may not prevent a theft, it will enable us to reunite owner and the item if recovered. It also enables us to identify whether a person is in possession of a stolen item. Shed alarms are also available to purchase from either Police Station.

We would like to take this opportunity to again thank you all, for your continued help in keeping our community a low crime area.
