Thames Valley Police - Faringdon East Monthly Update - January 2010

Faringdon East – January 2010
Here is the latest Faringdon East Neighbourhood update from Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) Myra Stokes and Sue Haynes:
We hope you had a happy and peaceful Christmas and a good start to the New Year.
It has been an extremely cold start to the year and a lot of the younger members of our community have been enjoying the snow. I have enjoyed seeing a huge array of snow sculptures in our villages which has brought a smile when we have been out on patrol. Unfortunately a small number of people have also been using the snow to act in an anti-social manner. This is a shame as much enjoyment is gained from consented snowball fights but targeting people, or vehicles and houses can cause alarm and distress to the occupants, please remind your children not to throw snow at any unsuspecting residents, or property.
During this cold snap we have been visiting some of the more vulnerable members of our community to ensure they are well, keeping warm and we are offering help where needed. It is most reassuring to hear that most of the people we visited are being looked after by neighbours and families.
Unfortunately thefts of staddle stones have been reported from Pusey and Gainfield in December. There has also been a theft of finials from the gates of a property in Longworth this year.
At the beginning of December two vans parked in Shellingford had tools stolen.
If anyone has information about the offences above please call us on
0845 8 505 505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Door knockers were reported to be in the Hanneys in December. Thanks to the prompt actions of residents, an officer was dispatched to deal with them. On this occasion they were all in order, but please continue to be vigilant and phone us immediately if you have any concerns about anybody you believe to be suspicious in your village.
We will be continuing to hold mobile police surgeries this year. On Saturday 30 January, we will park the police van at Hanney Memorial Hall between 10.30am and 12pm, Southmoor Shops between 1pm and 2.30pm, and Stanford in the Vale post office between 3pm and 4.30pm. If you have any concerns or would just like to stop for a chat we would be more than happy to see you.
The crime reduction event held in Millets Garden Centre in December was a huge success with over 300 ultra-violet pens and purse bells handed out along with advice. If you would like any crime reduction advice, or a visit by the Crime Reduction Officer, please contact us on 0845 8 505 505.
Thank you for your help, reporting crimes and providing information over the last year. Hopefully with the continued help of our community working together, we will be able to reduce crime in 2010.
