Thames Valley Police - Faringdon East Monthly Update - February 2010
February 4th 2010 by PCSO Myra Stokes and PCSO Sue Haynes
Here is the latest Faringdon East Neighbourhood update from PCSO Myra Stokes, and PCSO Sue Haynes
Thank you to those that stopped by at our recent surgeries, held in Hanney, Southmoor and Stanford in the Vale. It was good to chat and also to hear that no one had any major concerns.
A constant concern which is often raised, is parking. Inconsiderate parking can cause angst to peaceful neighbourhoods. Most of our smaller villages have dated capacity for parking, and newer builds only accommodate space for one vehicle. Please have consideration for your neighbours. Although no one has ownership of the highway directly outside their property, deliberately parking to irritate neighbours can also cause unnecessary friction and distress. Equally important is consideration when parking on narrow roads, or where other vehicles are parked and please remember that emergency vehicles need access to all areas to prevent loss of life or property.
Blocking driveways, parking on bends, a path, or too close to junctions is considered an obstruction, and you could find your vehicle removed and incurring the cost of recovery. A lot of our villages are unlit. If you stop on the highway, please park in the direction of the flow of traffic, this will enable the rear reflectors on your car to be picked up in the headlights of forward moving vehicles.
Parking outside our schools always poses an increased risk to children especially at the beginning and end of the school day. Please observe at all times parking restrictions, School keep clear markings, the disabled bay outside Buckland School, and the white zigzag lines around the zebra crossing in Stanford-in-the-Vale. Failing to observe this carries a fine of £60 and three penalty points on your licence.
With your help we continue to remain a low crime area, however there has been some wood from a farm in Garford, criminal damage to vehicles in Stanford in the Vale and some shed break burglaries at the allotments in Fyfield, where a green Weedeater strimmer and a Norlett cultivator were stolen.
An offender who damaged a vehicle in Hanney has been identified, and further enquiries are progressing.
If anyone has information regarding the offences above please call us on 0845 8 505 505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Over the next few months we will be conducting ‘Have Your Say’ consultations in all of our villages. These will be advertised in advance and gives you an opportunity to relay any concerns that you may have, or issues that impact on your quality of life. We will either action the information you provide, or relay to you the contact details of the service that will be able to help.
Delyth Hallion has organised ‘Southmoor drop in’ between 19:30 and 21:30 aimed at 14-18 year olds, every Friday at the Methodist Church in Southmoor. This is adequately and generously
supervised by vetted volunteers from Southmoor. Delyth and the team have worked hard on this project after identifying the problem of our younger members in Southmoor congregating in various locations around the village having nowhere to go to socialise where they will be safe, warm and away from any perceived anti social behaviour.
Thank you all for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you either at our Have your say meetings, or while out and about on patrol.
