The Public Purposes Charity
Stanford in the Vale
Registered no. 266,718
Stanford in the Vale is fortunate to have a Public Purposes Charity (PPC)
whose origins date back to the 18th century when it was first set
up to administer allotment lands on behalf of the Parish. In January 1980
the Parish Council was appointed Trustee, and in 1987 the sale of less
than a third of an acre of this land resulted in net proceeds of just
over £260,000 accruing to the Charity.
Following some difficulties
in the parallel financial management of Parish Council and the PPC
affairs, the Charity Commission decided to make a clear separation
between the PPC and the Parish Council, and re-formed the PPC under
a new Scheme dated 21 August 1997.

The PPC was an original supplier and supporter of The Millenium Green project.
The Trust now administers an income of the order of £20,000 a year through
a Grants Applications system for the benefit of all parishioners and, through
its Allotments Committee, looks after the remaining allotment lands. Allotments
are available for interested parishioners on application to the Allotments
Committee on a first come first served basis.
