5 hour circular route

Horsecroft - Charney Bassett

Distance 3 miles each way, duration 2 hours there and back.

Follow Horsecroft past the cottages and over the brook to where the tarmac surface runs out. Continue along track past the barn on the right and alongside the field right to the gate where the surface eventually ends. Go through the gate across the field and through the next gate (please ensure that both gates are securely closed afterwards). Follow the rack across the next three fields and go through the next gate into a large open field. Go straight across this field - the path runs through the middle of it to the gate at the other side.

Pass through the gate then over a small bridge and onto a footpath with hedges on either side. There is a wood on the left. At the end of the wood, follow the path to the right (don't go through the gate ahead). Continue along the path which eventually runs along the edge of a field until you get to a metal gate. Go through the gate and keep along the path with a stream on the right. After a few yeards there is a picnic and children's play area on the left. Shortly after the path runs into an unmade road which comes out into the Main Street in Charney Bassett.

Refreshments available at The Chequers. Turn left into the Main Street and follow this to the right. The Chequers is immediately on the left.

Note that this route is a bridleway which is a right of way for walkers, horseriders and cyclists. For cycling a mountain bike (MTB) is recommended.
